iryo, the company owned by Trenitalia (FS Group) that operates in the Spanish high-speed sector, celebrates two years of activity in the Iberian market. Since its launch, iryo has transported over 13 million passengers.
Active since 25 November 2022, the company belonging to the FS Group began by connecting the cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza, with the consequent addition of Valencia, Cuenca, Seville, Malaga, Tarragona, Cordoba, Alicante and Albacete.
Today, iryo, with 65 daily connections, connects 11 cities with a fleet of 20 Frecciarossa trains.
Simone Gorini, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of iryo, says: "2024 was a crucial year for iryo’s consolidation, as all routes were active for at least 12 months for the first time. Managing this company is a rewarding challenge we face every day, just as our over 600 employees, who strive to offer the best travel experience to our customers. On our second anniversary, besides being proud of our achievements, we are also happy with the positive feedback we receive from travellers."
iryo trains achieved a load factor of 77.43% in June, July and August, with a total of 2.1 million passengers travelling on them in the summer season. The busiest route was Barcelona-Seville, followed by Barcelona-Madrid.
This success is also highlighted by the recognitions received, such as the award for innovative land transport company received last year in Alicante from the Asociación de Relaciones Empresariales del Mediterraneo (REM); or the title of 'Empresa del año’ in 2023, awarded by Capital magazine. These awards vouch for the quality of the service offered, combined with a marked focus on sustainability aspects. iryo convoys are 94% recyclable and use 100% renewable energy, and therefore do not generate CO2. The Spanish company has also been focused on intermodal transport through several agreements signed with companies in the tourism and transport sector, to offer combined tickets and integrated travel experiences.
Apart from Spain, FS Group is present in France with Trenitalia France, in the UK with Avanti West Coast and c2c, in Greece with Hellenic Train through urban, suburban and medium- and long-distance connections, in Germany with Netinera, a regional passenger operator, and with TX Logistik, a logistics operator, and in the Netherlands with Qbuzz, a road transport operator.
Currently, to help the victims of the 'Dana’ cyclone that heavily hit Spain, FS Group has joined the fund-raising campaign promoted by the Italian Red Cross in favour of the Spanish Red Cross, to provide assistance, food, and hygiene kits.
