Stations will play a fundamental role in the development of sustainable mobility in Italy, as multimodal mobility nodes and service hubs. In order to respond to the needs of passengers, visitors and territories as well as to extend the range and quality of services offered, it is important to collect as much as possible up-to-date information on the presence of people in the station. Thanks to a geospatial data intelligence platform that analyses anonymised telephone Big Data, the FS Research Centre produces a monthly study on three important stations: Roma Termini, Milano Centrale and Napoli Centrale related to people’s origin and destination, train used (for travellers) and time spent in the station.
Since January 2024, a new, more effective and efficient algorithm has been adopted to calculate the various indicators in the bulletins. The numbers reported are therefore no longer comparable with those from previous years.
