Salvatore Iannicelli, Chief Security Officer of FS Group, has been appointed Chairman of Colpofer (Collaboration des services de police ferroviaire et de sécurité), an association that groups together the security organisations of the major European railway companies and comprises 28 members from 22 different countries.
Founded in 1980, since 1997 it has become a Special Group of the UIC (Union International Chemin de Fer), a worldwide body that brings together all the operators in the railway sector and that in Europe is presided by FS CEO Stefano Donnarumma.
'I would like to thank all Colpofer Board Members for their support and trust. I am honoured to be able to lead this organisation, and I intend to continue along the path of progress and innovation already undertaken by my predecessors - emphasised Salvatore Iannicelli - I believe we will successfully work together to fulfil our vision of an harmonized railway safety standard, and to accomplish all the goals outlined in our annual programme, in line with the commitments of the UIC Roadmap for a safer, more efficient and sustainable railway system.'
Colpofer's mission is to develop and standardise security procedures to counter unlawful behaviour in the railway sector and to improve infrastructure and transport security standards, by promoting synergies between railway police forces and security organisations of railway companies.
Salvatore Iannicelli's appointment was voted unanimously at Colpofer's 78th General Assembly held yesterday in Brussels. The meeting took place as part of the broader 1st Symposium organised by Colpofer and Railpol, the European Association of Railway Police.
