FS Italiane Group and the Municipality of Naples: Memorandum of Understanding on Mobility and Urban Regeneration

Objectives include strengthening the infrastructure system, developing local public transport and the urban regeneration of disused railway areas

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today by Umberto Lebruto, CEO of FS Sistemi Urbani – the lead company of the FS Italiane Group’s Urban Business Unit – and the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. This agreement between the FS Italiane Group and the Municipality of Naples is focused on enhancing the infrastructure system, developing Local Public Transport and the urban regeneration of the railway areas in the municipal territory.

Signed in the presence of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane CEO Luigi Ferraris, the MoU envisages the sharing of a joint plan of action to be developed between the FS Italiane Group, with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and FS Sistemi Urbani (as the lead companies of FS Italiane’s Infrastructure Business Unit and the Urban Business Unit respectively) and the Municipality of Naples. The agreement will be used to define: the Mobility Plan and its strategic objectives; the improvement of the level of connectivity of the multimodal offer and the overall system of accessibility to individual railway stations; the bettering of accessibility and bicycle connections between stations; and, the strategic objectives and potential related to the urban regeneration of disused and decommissioned railway areas owned by the FS Group.

With the signing of the Protocol, the Municipality of Naples and the FS Group establish a technical round table that will be tasked with carrying out the necessary in-depth studies for achieving the objectives through acquiring all useful information for developing the activities along with sharing the studies and technical and economic analyses.
