Rome, 12 July 2023
Rome and the excavations of Pompeii are now even closer. On Sunday, 16 July, the new direct Rome-Pompeii Frecciarossa train connection shall depart from the Roma Termini station, fruit of the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group.
The new train service was presented today at the Ministry of Culture headquarters by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché, FS Italiane Group CEO Luigi Ferraris, General Director of Museums Massimo Osanna and Pompeii Archaeological Park Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel.
The direct connection (with no changes) between the capital and one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites will be aboard the Frecciarossa 1000, the flagship train in the fleet of Trenitalia (leader of the FS Group’s Passenger Business Unit) every third Sunday of the month and will allow passengers and tourists to reach Pompeii from Rome in one hour and 47 minutes, returning in the evening in two and a quarter hours. Along the way, passengers can learn about the history of ancient Pompeii through a clip that will be broadcast on the on-board monitors.
The Schedules. Departure is from Roma Termini at 8:53 am with a stop at Napoli Centrale at 10:03 am and arrival at the station of Pompeii at 10:40 am. Awaiting passengers at the excavations is the Pompeii Link shuttle bus. The return journey is scheduled for 6:40 pm, with a stop at Napoli Centrale at 7:23 pm and arrival at Roma Termini at 8:55 pm.
The new connection will be added to the existing 50 daily round trips that already run between Rome and Pompeii by Frecciarossa train, arriving in Naples Centrale via the High Speed train and continuing to the destination on Trenitalia regional trains from the underlying Piazza Garibaldi station.
