Messina, 5 April 2023

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the lead company of the FS Italiane Group’s Infrastructure Hub, awarded Manelli Impresa with the tender for the design and construction of restoration works for the first lot of the Caltagirone-Gela line, the extent running from Caltagirone to Niscemi.

The tender is worth around 66 million euro, also financed with funds from the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan).

The contracted section is about 20 kilometres in length, crossing the territories of the Catania and Caltanissetta provinces, involving adaptation of the civil works along the route, such as tunnels, trenches and embankments, along with the restoration of a passenger building for the Niscemi station and its adaptation to the needs of accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

This task is part of RFI’s broader project for restoring the Caltagirone-Gela railway line, also including in the first Caltagirone-Niscemi functional lot two contracts for the reconstruction of a viaduct and the seismic upgrading of the remaining viaducts between Caltagirone and Niscemi, both awarded in 2022.

RFI’s Commercial Director, Christian Colaneri, was appointed as Extraordinary Commissioner to oversee the works.
