Presentation of FS Italiane’s development plan for the Lazio Region and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding

18 billion euro in investments for Lazio’s economic and tourist system. Two HS trains to stop at Frosinone and Cassino a new High Speed Station project in the province of Frosinone

This morning, Nicola Zingaretti, President of the Lazio region, and Gianfranco Battisti, Chief Executive Officer and General Director of the FS Italiane Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the relaunch of Transport, Economy and Tourism in Lazio. In attendance were the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli, and the Regional Councillor for Mobility, Mauro Alessandri.

The Memorandum of Understanding is part of FS Italiane Group’s substantial plan for investing over 18 billion euro in Lazio’s economic and tourist system.

In particular, of the 18 billion euro in investment, 13 billion is earmarked for rail infrastructure, 1.4 billion for rail transport and 3.9 billion for road infrastructure. Around 1 billion euro, rather, is destined to urban regeneration and redevelopment of the stations.

The Memorandum of Understanding also forms an integral part of the FS Italiane Group’s development plan for the accessible tourism system.

As of next summer, two HS trains will stop each day at the Stations of Frosinone and Cassino along the Rome-Cassino line to connect the territory of Rome to the High Capacity lines in just 41 minutes.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Lazio Region and the FS Italiane Group is also the first step in the process of evaluating the construction of the new High Speed station in Frusinate.

This project represents a concrete opportunity to contribute to the revitalisation of the local economy, promote the development of tourism throughout the territory, whilst simultaneously fostering sustainable and green mobility in line with the European Commission’s Green New Deal.
