Brussels, 20 February 2020

International marketsTEN-T Corridors, investment plan for Southern Italy and the ERTMS to launch Italy as a protagonist in the challenge for the development of a competitive, increasingly safe and interoperable European railway network.

These are the main topics that Gianfranco Battisti, CEO and General Director of the FS Italiane Group addressed during the institutional meetings that took place in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, the European Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni and the members of the Transport Commission of the European Parliament.

In particular, the discussions included planning the preliminary activities for the entry of FS Italiane into the French and Spanish High Speed railways, and the new initiatives for the operation of the future English HS network.

Furthermore, there was talk of a review of the trans-European network for greater integration of Italy into the European network, especially in the Balkans, where new development initiatives are being pursued.

The FS Italiane Group is also working, with other European railway companies, on new energy supply systems, complementary to the electrical ones, that use hydrogen and batteries, and on the implementation of an ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) European centre of excellence based in Italy.
