Record number of abstracts presented at the WCRR

Rome, 9th June 2015

A record number of applications have been made to participate in the World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR), to be hosted by Gruppo FS Italiane in Milan in 2016.

As many as 936 scientific abstracts were forwarded by the deadline, illustrating projects and results from research and process innovation in the railway industry carried out by enterprises, infrastructure managers, universities and businesses from all over the world, a considerable increase with respect to the most successful edition until organised by the French Railway Company in Lille in 2011.

These positive figures also derive from the innovative elements introduced for this edition, entitled Research and Innovation from Today Towards 2050: in fact, the various sessions entailed include one entitled Vision & Future for which 161 abstracts were presented and another especially for practical illustration of the feasibility of innovative ideas and concepts entitled Proof of Concept (178 abstracts sent). Research may also be presented in innovative e-poster format, thereby ensuring that results can be shared in the most accessible way.

Researchers and people involved in this industry from throughout the world will come to witness presentation of the results: 38 Countries are represented, with Italy, Japan, France, China and United Kingdom standing out in terms of the number of projects presented.

It is very interesting to note that a considerable number of abstracts were also sent by universities and businesses that appear to have little to do with research and innovation in the field of transport and mobility at first glance.
