ATAF 12-metre electric bus tested in Florence

Free travel from today until 2 March

Florence, 21 February 2019

Twelve-metre eCitaro electric bus tested on the streets of Florence.

From today 21 February until 2 March passengers can climb on board and try, free of charge, the Zero Emission electric version of the Citaro bus made by Mercedes that is already in use in the city powered by Euro6 diesel.

Ecitaro has been supplied by the manufacturer to allow Ataf Gestioni (FS Italiane Group), and more generally to Busitalia, also part of FS Italiane Group, to try out the performance and the use of the bus in an urban environment: a true technical field test.

During this period, eCitaro will be in service every morning in addition to the other buses in service in the metropolitan area of Florence following a fixed programme. On Mondays it will be in service on route 1, on Tuesdays on route 6, on Wednesdays on route 14, on Thursdays on route 17, on Fridays on route 20, on Saturdays on route 23 and on Sundays on route 32.

This initiative will not be the only one of its kind. Ataf Gestioni and Busitalia intend to try out different types of electric vehicles in the field. The aim is to check performance and range compared with urban services that are now delivered by diesel-powered means.

The electric buses are a turning point for sustainable mobility: an important share of the investments for the renewal of the Busitalia fleet.
