KEY The Energy Transition Expo, the most important European event dedicated to technologies, services, and integrated solutions for energy efficiency and renewable energies in Italy and the Mediterranean basin, returns to the Rimini Exhibition Centre from 28 February to 1 March.
The “The decarbonisation path of FS Italiane, including the reduction of consumption, new technological models and self-production of clean energy” conference organized by FS will be held on 29 February, from 9.30 to 10.30. It will be an opportunity to take stock of the activities undertaken by FS Italiane to achieve 'Zero net emissions' by 2040.
FS Group has certified its decarbonisation targets with SBTi (the Science Based Targets initiative that stimulates the private sector to take climate action) and has already started its plan to generate 2.6 TWh of electricity per year. Work is also under way on the installation of photovoltaic systems in stations, workshops and other properties. At Roma Termini, for example, a photovoltaic system is being built that will affect a 5,000sqm portion of the roof of the station car park above the platforms. The plant, consisting of 1,062 high-efficiency solar panels, will generate a peak power of approximately 0.5 megawatts, with the possibility of expansion at a later stage.
In addition to harnessing solar energy to power its facilities and run its trains, the Group is reducing consumption, making efficiency improvements and further electrifying the railway line. This includes, for example, the plan to modernise regional trains. The new Pop and Rock train fleet, financed with the Green Bond, reduce consumption by 30% compared to the previous generation of trains.
FS Group will also be present at the fair until 1 March with a 64 square metre stand located in the Sustainable City and Mobility pavilion.
