The project envisages restoration of the direct connection between Palermo and Trapani via Milo, which closed in 2013 due to conditions of extensive deterioration that could no longer be resolved with mere maintenance work.
More in detail, the interventions consist in infrastructural enhancement through modifying the road body and defence works, adaptation to new technological standards, along with the speeding up of deviation routes in the main crossroad locations.
Electrification of the entire line is also planned, along with the construction of a road subway within the municipality of Trapani, allowing the elimination of three level crossings. This intervention will allow the Palermo-Trapani connection to be reopened, guaranteeing higher network performance and faster interconnection.
Filippo Palazzo was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.
