The project for the new line shall connect the city of Matera to the national railway infrastructure via a 20-kilometre single-track electrified line.

The Matera La Martella station will be serviced by both a direct connection to the Ferrandina station and a connection to the north.

The project will render it possible to establish long-distance railway connections between Matera and the High Speed system as well as to enhance the local public transport offering within the area in terms of frequency and quality.

Vera Fiorani was appointed Extraordinary Governmental Commissioner for completion of the works.
