Chief Executive Officer of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group

Since 3 June 2021, Luigi Ferraris has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.

Prior, he was CEO and General Director of Terna from May 2017 to May 2020.

From february 2015 to april 2017, was Chief Financial Officer of the Poste Italiane Group, of which he directed the procedure behind the company’s privatisation and listing on the stock exchange.

Luigi Ferraris was part of the Enel Group from october 1999 to january 2015, holding various upper managerial positions, including that of the Group’s Chief Financial Officer from june 2009 to november 2014. He was also Chairman of Enel Green Power throughout the same period, overseeing the listing procedure as well as being Director of the Chilean subsidiary Enersis and, subsequently, Head of the Latin America zone and CEO of the same until January 2015. Luigi Ferraris was additionally Director of the Spanish subsidiary Endesa S.A. and of other important companies of the Group.

From april 2015 to april 2017, he was an Independent Director of the energy company ERG SpA, listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.

He began his career in the field of auditing for PricewaterhouseCoopers and has held several senior management positions in major Italian and international industrial companies, starting with Agusta, Piaggio VE, Sasib Beverage and Elsag Bailey Process Automation – a company that belonged at that time to the Finmeccanica Group and listed on the NYSE. Between 1998 and 1999, Ferraris held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Elsacom, a company of the Finmeccanica Group operating in satellite telephony.

He holds a degree in Economics and Commerce from the University of Genoa. Ferraris is a professor of Corporate Strategy at the LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome, where he has also taught university courses in Business Strategies and Corporate Strategies as well as MBA courses on Energy Management, Planning and Control, Management Control Systems and Advanced Corporate Finance at the LUISS Business School.

Luigi Ferraris is married, the father of two children, a lover of the mountains and classical music.
